Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a worldwide campaign aiming to spread education and awareness about the disease that has cost too many lives. During the month of October, thousands of organizations around the globe host events, talks, free examinations, and other events to spread the word and raise funds for the cause.
How Can I Get Involved?
No matter where you live, there are ways to get involved on-site and even more ways to participate in events and donate online. You can make a difference anonymously or personally touch someone’s life.
Attend Pinktober 2018 at Hard Rock Rocksino
Rock the night away while helping a cause on Saturday, October 20th at Pinktober 2018. This fun event will be held at Hard Rock Rocksino and will include cocktails, a silent auction, dinner, a presentation, and a performance by artists like Scott Stapp of Creed, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, and Michael Stanley. A sponsorship is required to attend so purchase your sponsorship here to secure your seats! Pinktober gives you the opportunity to spread awareness, have some fun, and raise money for the cause simultaneously.
Choose a charity and volunteer your time.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved – and they’re not limited to donating funds. You can help patients both physically and emotionally by supporting them with a written letter, an exercise class, a wig donation, and so much more. Supporting patients on a personal level is a great way to make a difference in their emotional wellbeing.
Donate to a chemo center.
Breast cancer patients are often going through one of the most frightening times of their lives. Donating clothes, hats, blankets, and any other comforting items to a chemo center can help you make a small but positive difference. Though you may not be able to meet the patients to hand-deliver your donations, you’ll know that your gesture may have made someone’s day just a little better.
Donate funds to a trusted research initiative.
Of course, the main purpose of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to find a cure and prevent new cases. This requires research. Help out by doing some research of your own to find a trustworthy initiative to donate your funds to. Once you have found your initiative of choice, share the donation link with your friends and family via social media, email, text, and word of mouth in the hopes that they’ll join you in donating.
Attend and participate in local events.
Check your local events calendar or Facebook page to explore ways to get involved locally. Many communities will host walks, marathons, and other awareness or fundraising events. Share these events with your friends and family and gather a group to participate.
Wearing pink is probably the most simple and common way to get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Not only does this help spread awareness, it also reminds people that this is a month dedicated to helping the cause. Your pink may help spark donations and other forms of participation.
Let your community know you’re available to help.
An easy way to let your community know that you want to help is to post on local community forums online or in your local coffee shops. These offers could include driving people to and from doctors appointments, helping with their grocery shopping, making them lunch, or other ways of giving back. This visibility will help the right people see your offer.
There are countless ways to get involved during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, including donating money to research initiatives, donating your time to events and helpful errands, and contributing physical items to patients who may find them comforting or helpful. This October, spread awareness and do your part to get us one step closer to finding a cure.
